Surface Design: Hearts of Love - Palm Coast shop

You'll just love creating this adorable project using a super simple pattern from those wonderful folks at Patch Abilities! We're going to kick it up a notch as we learn to make Angelina 'fabric' using those amazing Angelina fibers, as well as 'weave' some fantastic Angelina film! This will make a wonderful Valentine gift for that special someone or for yourself!
DATE: Thursday, January 21st
TIME: 10:30 - 12:30
CLASS FEE: $11
INSTRUCTOR: Teresa Stoller
Please bring the following SUPPLIES to class:
Supplies are available at Byrd's Nest Quilt Shop in Palm Coast.
When selecting fabrics, please consider 'contrast'. Your Angelina 'fabric' hearts will touch the background fabric as well as all borders. This project is great for using up scraps of cotton fabrics!
Note: Since the majority of our classtime will be devoted to learning how to create Angelina 'fabric', how to 'weave' Angelina film, and how to make Angelina appliques, it is important that you bring the following fabrics cut and ready to stitch! We start stitching almost immediately at the beginning of class! This will help ensure that we can complete our project within our class time.
Fabric #1: Cut one 3 1/2" x 16 1/2" piece of a 'light' color fabric for background. Sample used a 'cream' color batik.
Fabric #2: Cut two 1 1/2" x 10" strips of a 'light/medium' color fabric for pieced side borders.
Fabric #3: Cut two 1 1/2" x 7" strips of a 'light/medium' color fabric for pieced side borders.
Fabric #4: Cut two 2" x 5 1/2" strips of a 'light/medium' color fabric for top & bottom borders.
Fabric #5: Cut one 7" x 22" piece for backing.
Heart Chain pattern by Patch Abilities
Batting: Low loft cotton. Cut one 7" x 22" piece.
3 buttons (optional)
1/4 yd fusible web: such as SteamASeam or HeatNBond. Please ensure that your product is fresh. 'Old' or improperly stored product may appear 'shredded' and will not bond properly.
Angelina fibers: 1 to 3 colors will work fine for this project. Some pink and red tones were used in the sample. Whether you bring one package or three, you will have some leftover for future projects!
Angelina film: 2 colors will work best for the woven center of the hearts in this project. The variety packs available at Byrd's Nest Quilt Shop come with 3 colors to a pack, so you'll have great choices!
Threads: For piecing, applique and 'quilting'. Remember your bobbins, too!
Scissors: For cutting fused shapes and for cutting fabric and threads.
Sewing Machine in good working order
Basic Sewing Supplies (including pins, seam ripper, machine needles, hand sewing needle, etc.)
Permanent marker (such as Sharpie) for tracing applique shapes. Pencil will work (just won't be as visible for cutting). No water soluble markers/pens......they smudge!
Good news: you will NOT need to bring a rotary cutter and cutting mat since you will be cutting your fabrics prior to coming to class!
