Shamrocks

Oh, the photo can never do justice to those amazing Angelina fibers!  You'll just love playing with the Shamrocks pattern, as we create our shamrocks using the amazing Angelina fibers and film, as well as some fantastic fabric foils!  This adorable project goes together super quick!  Come join the fun!

DATE:  Thursday, February 18th

TIME:  10:30 - 12:30

CLASS FEE:  $11 plus supplies

INSTRUCTOR:  Teresa Stoller

SUPPLY LIST below:  Supplies available at the Palm Coast location of the Byrd's Nest.......you will receive a 15% discount for supplies purchased for class!

PLEASE HELP US:  For the comfort and well being of all, please do not wear any type of scented product to class, (e.g., perfume, cologne, body splash, powders, lotions, creams, etc.).  Your classmates and/or instructor may suffer from serious health issues, such as asthma or allergies.  In addition, please turn your cell phone to 'silent' / 'vibrate' prior to coming to class.  In order to avoid distractions in the classroom, please make or take phone calls outside.  Thank you so much for your assistance and understanding!

FABRIC #1:  Light color for background.  Cut one 4" x 18" strip.

FABRIC #2:  Medium color for borders and backing.  Cut two 1 1/2" x 18" strips for side borders.  Cut two 2" x 6" strips for top and bottom borders.  Cut one 8" x 23" piece for backing......this will be trimmed down in class to the same size as your pieced top.  You may want to save an additional scrap of this to attach a sleeve later at home.

FABRIC #3:  A scrap......about 5" x 5" or so......of any cotton fabric you'd like!  This fabric will be covered (almost entirely) by fabric foil.  Soooo, if you've got a piece of seriously 'ugly' fabric, consider giving it new life with some foil!!

BATTING:  Cut one 6" x 21" piece of low loft cotton batting.

FUSIBLE WEB:  1/4 yard of SteamASeam or HeatNBond is great.

BLACK PERMANENT MARKER:  Such as Sharpie or Pigma Micron for tracing shapes.  No water soluble markers......they smudge and you will have a mess!  Pencil is fine.....make sure it is dark enough for you to see your traced shapes on the release paper of the fusible web.

ANGELINA FIBERS:  Christmas green and lime green were used in the sample.  Green was mixed with some small bits of other colors, too, to create a dimensional look to the Shamrocks.  Experiment with color in this project......how about a plum Shamrock?!!  Or a gold shamrock?!

ANGELINA FILM:  Thanks to the irridescent quality of the film, almost any color will produce beautiful results in the Shamrocks!  Blues, greens, golds, pinks.....yes, even pinks......lemon yellows......just about anything.  We're going to layer some and create depth in our Shamrocks!

FOIL ADHESIVE:  Cold gray adhesive was used in the sample and will be available at the Byrd's Nest in Palm Coast.  This adhesive dries quickly and allows the fabric foil to be used within minutes.

FABRIC FOIL:  Green was used in the sample.  Consider experimenting with color.......how about a splash of fuschia foil?!

THREAD:  For piecing and for stitching around the Shamrocks.

BOBBINS:  Remember to consider that some of your thread will show on the back of your project.

SEWING MACHINE:  In good working order, and one with which you are comfortable.

BASIC SEWING SUPPLIES:  Including, but not limited to, scissors, seam ripper, rotary cutting blades, etc......bring the supplies you usually use for sewing.

ROTARY CUTTER, ACRYLIC RULER AND CLASSROOM SIZE CUTTING MAT:  New blade is important......sharp, sharp, sharp!
